6th grade Term _ news
Week 1-Our first unit is CLAY (Ceramics). Students will be learning clay terms and tools. Our focus of one of the methods of building will be Coil construction. The sculptures need to be a minimum of 5 inches and less than 12 inches tall.

Week 2-Students will continue to build on their Coil sculptures. They will get a grade for how well they put the construction together. I am looking for stability, creativity, neatness, and size.
Students will begin observational drawing of things from nature. We will discuss symmetry, assymetry and detail.
Week 3- Students will begin their drawing and watercolor unit.
Drawing from Nature
Using the shells provided. LOOK at the leaves and draw the shapes and the detail, Draw in “light” pencil. Try to do the following in your drawing….
• Draw different types and sizes – variety
• Overlap
• Draw them facing different directions
• Run leaves off the edge of the paper
• Fill the page
Notice that some leaves are symmetrical and some are asymmetrical.
Students will transfer their drawing
Week 4- We will focus of the art of glazing our coil creations.
Week 5-Introduction to self portraits this week.
Week 6-Work on completing all three projects .
